Chris Sale – This may be one of the easier picks that most people will have to make this year. Although he will be owned by just about everybody is cash games, I simply see no way that you can fade Chris Sale tonight against the Astros. He is now up to 79 K’s in 66 IP this year with at least 10 K’s in 4 out of his last 5 starts.
King Felix had a disastrous last start giving up 7 ER and 5 walks which was easily his worst of the season. He only gave up 7 ER in all of April and 6 ER in May before that last start so I don’t expect another start like that for a long time. Even with that horrendous start, he still has 75 K’s in 75 IP, a sub 1.00 WHIP, a 2.63 ERA, and 8 wins.
Odorizzi seems like another Rays pitcher who just gets things done. The list seems to keep growing with Shields, Price, Archer, Moore, and now Odorizzi who is really becoming one of the better pitchers in the MLB. On the year, he has 59 K’s in 72 IP, basically a 1.00 WHIP, a 2.61 ERA and 4 wins. These are all solid numbers across the board and while you hope for a few more strikeouts, he is going against the Mariners who seem to be doing that a lot lately. They have climbed to a tie for the 3rd most strikeouts in the MLB with 451 and have the 27th best batting average at .237 which doesn’t bode well for them today.
Kuechel has been a stud all year long, and has put in a solid campaign for the cy young so far this year. Sure, he may only have 60 K’s in 81 IP, but he does everything else well. He has wins this year, only 74 combined hits and walks, and has a 1.76 ERA this season.
