Madison Bumgarner – The Phillies have some bad luck running into Kershaw, Greinke, and now Bumgarner 3 days in a row. I don’t expect the result to be any different as they got shut out both of those games, and I don’t expect them to do much tonight. Bumgarner is an all-star for good reason as he has been great again, and I expect him to bounce back after a bad start last time out.
Zach Greinke – There are some other great pitchers tonight, but Greinke has been great so far this year, and has the best matchup against the Phillies tonight. They got shut down by Kershaw last night, and while Greinke may not toss 13 K’s, I do expect him to pitch deep into the game with a handful of K’s.
Clayton Kershaw – I can’t believe that he wasn’t voted into the all-star game, and I think he will take out that frustration on the Phillies tonight. He is striking out more guys than he ever has before, and still has a rock solid 3.08 ERA. He is easily my top pitcher tonight and I expect to break the streak of bad pitching here.
Max Scherzer – I seem to write about him every 5 days, but it’s for good reason as he continues to be the best pitcher in baseball. He strikes out a lot of guys, and doesn’t allow very many baserunners which is a recipe for success. He has pitched at least 8 innings in his last 4 starts, and I expect that to continue tonight.
This was a very tough decision because Chris Sale has been so good lately, but Carrasco simply has the better matchup tonight. He almost threw a no hitter in his last start, and going against the Astros is as good as it gets for a pitcher. I expect a lot of strikeouts tonight, and I will continue to see how the Astros look minus George Springer.
